DJ Exclusive: Moby Tenenbaum

DJ Moby Tenenbaum hanging at Alt7

I have been to quite a few of Moby's sets at Alt7 and always get a good mix of Indie artists. Moby has great taste in his selections and if you would like to hear him come by Alt7  2 - 4 pm Sundays!

Here is what Moby said:

Are you DJing currently and where? Yes. Alt7, Sundays 2-4pm.

When did you start DJing? About four years ago.

First Club? I started at Pop-scene and The Rooftop Club (neither of which now exist) at about the same time—I Think TRC was actually where I first spun.
Most unusual thing you saw while DJing? Probably the night someone rezzed a full carousel at the old Gnarled Oak and everyone was riding on it.

Favorite music? Generally, indie rock.  But I have very broad taste—far broader than my Second Life listeners might imagine.

Influences? So many. Blues. Early ‘60s psychedelia. Early punk. But especially the cool stuff that was happening before punk broke in the ‘70s in NYC and the UK—The Velvet Underground, Television, Patti Smith Group, Iggy, The Talking Heads, XTC, Roxy Music. Those bands may very well have saved my life.  And yes, I’m old.

What do you listen to at home? When you add up all the time I spend on the puter looking for new alt/indie stuff PLUS the time I spend walking around the city listening to alt/indie stuff (including my playlists) on my iPod PLUS the time spent listening to other alt/indie DJs in SL, that’s a LOT of alt/indie. Therefore, when I’m cooking in the kitchen I tend to prefer hearing other genres: reggae, blues, classical, and occasionally jazz.

Do you have a regular set you play, a “go to” set? No. My sets are almost always unique. For me, creating the list is at least three fourths of the fun.

When can we hear you DJ usually? Sundays 2-4pm at alt7.

Cream and sugar or black? Black.

Cat or Dog? Believe it or not, I like both. Six months ago, I would have said dog; but I’ve moved into a household with the coolest cat in the world and I love her dearly.

If you could take one thing from your inventory for real-life use, what would it be, and why pick it? My Capuchin shoulder monkey. Because he’d attract chicks.

Thank you Moby and come out to Alt7 to hear Moby on Sunday 2-4pm.
